One of my best Linux distros is XUBUNTU , and like all the Linux distros that uses XFCE desktop environment started to include Whisker menu as the default menu ,and it can’t be nothing but another dose of beauty and efficiency . But one thing that bothers me on the Whisker menu in XUBUNTU 14.04 is the option that allows you to position the Whisker menu categories to the left ,somehow is messing ,i tried to update the system but nothing changed so i decided to reinstall the Whisker menu ,and yes! it did work! .
So to bring back that option and position your whisker menu to the left side ,all you need to do is install the latest version ,and by that i mean update Whisker menu , it’s really easy just follow the steps below:
First open a terminal and copy/past or type this command line and press Enter :
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gottcode/gcppa
This will add the repository from where you will download the whisker menu
Type your password and press Enter .
Press Enter again.
Now copy/past or type this command line and press enter:
sudo apt-get update
This will download the package lists from the repository.
It should look like that .It may take some time depending in your connexion speed and the last time you updated the package lists :
And now the last step , install the new version of the whisker menu.
Copy/past or type this command line and press enter:
sudo apt-get install xfce4-whiskermenu-plugin
That’s all , just log out and log in .Right click on the menu button then click on About , it wasn’t there before the update so its a good sign ,you should see that you installed the 1.4.1 version or higher.
The option “Position categories next to the panel button ” is back , click on it you are done.
